Welcome! I hope the following info will be helpful to you and your child. You can email me at anytime with math or school questions. I will be glad to help. Your child’s learning is up to me, you, and your child. I want to start with saying I have a Facebook page for my math class. This page is where I will post many important things like upcoming tests and I will also post videos of how to do objectives that are taught during the year. Just go to your Facebook and search in the menu Mrs. Conner 5th grade math… You will click join page. I do not allow students to join the page under their names, it must be an adult.

*****************************SUPPLIES FOR CLASS EACH DAY******************************

*Never use pen- always pencil

*Brain is a must- My job is to teach- your job is to learn!                               *Paper, pencil, book

**************************************RULES: *****************************************

*Always show your work unless the assignment is to use mental math     *Turn your work in on time.

*Treat everyone & everything with respect.         *If you can’t see- you may move!

*No tardies- you only leave my room in case of emergencies.

*Class starts as soon as the bell rings- be ready!                             *If you have questions- ask!

**************************************GRADES: ***************************************

*You earn your grades- be proud of themJ

*Every nine weeks- one low daily grade is dropped.

*Each week a timed multiplication test will be given.

*Your child can take their assignments home every night, if we did not do as a class. The due date is given with every assignment. Zero will be given if they do not turn in their assignment when it is dueL. Students will be able to redo any assignment for a possible 80% that comes home in the Wednesday folder, so 20 points will be taken off the final grade for any redo assignment. They can get the assignment during encore/recess and work on it at that time. Students cannot redo tests. The cut off for turning in redo assignments is the 7th week of a 9 weeks.

*Tests count twice- review before tests, students may take notes home to study. I will also post videos on my Facebook group “Mrs. Conner 5th grade Math” to help with understanding of each concept throughout the year.

*Students get the opportunity to win a prize for 100% on tests.

******************************More information to know*********************************

*Your child is responsible for the textbook for the year. They will be given a Volume 1 during the first semester, then Volume 2 when Volume 1 is completed.  If the textbook is lost the student is responsible for the replacement at a cost of $87. We will rely on the text books for most assignments given in class. I do not want students to work ahead on their assignments to assure they understand the concepts they will be given.

*Extra help is given at encore and before school.

*A spiral review will be done throughout the year. Students are welcome to redo spiral assignments, but the spiral is left in the classroom. They will need to come in at Encore to redo any pages.

*Encore: Your child will be assigned mandatory encore if their average falls to 59 or below. You will receive notification from the school informing you of their grade. Mandatory encore is during recess time. They are required to report to encore on time and be prepared to work. Mandatory encore is assigned a week at a time and is designed to give the student additional help to raise their grade average.

*Virtual days- We will be using google classroom for our virtual days. Students will be required to log in their google classroom on those days to access their assignments. Students will be taught at school how to use it.

*If students have to be quarantined they may log into their google classroom to access assignments each day. They will not be counted absent if a student does their daily assignments in their google classroom for the days they are quarantined.

*Students need to have their temperature checked before coming to school each morning. If they are running a fever they are not allowed to come to school. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

I love math and hope you will also by the end of the year! We have a lot to learn!

Let’s go!

Thank you,

Mrs. Conner
