Welcome to 5th grade Social Studies.  It is going to be a great, yet very fast-paced year.  The following information is to help you and your child know what to expect for the upcoming year.  We will be covering a lot of material in Social Studies:  Jamestown Settlement, Plymouth Plantation, Colonial America, American Revolution and the Early Federal Period (U.S Constitution and Bill of Rights). It is necessary that students keep up with assignments and turn them in on time.  Voluntary encore is available for students who would like additional help.  Any student whose grade average is a F (59 or below) will be assigned MANDATORY ENCORE.   Feel free to call me with any questions or concerns.

  • Textbook
  • Pencil
  • Art Kit

  • Each nine weeks one low daily grade is dropped.
  • Review sheets will be given before each test.  Tests count as 2 grades.
  • Assignments not completed in class can be taken home.  All homework is due at the beginning of class the next day.   Assignments one day late will have 10 points deducted.  Assignments two days late will have 20 points deducted.  A “0” will be given if the work is not turned in the third day.
  • Weekly Geography assignments will be given on Monday and due on Friday of each week.  These are for a grade.  The student may have the teacher check over their paper anytime Monday through Thursday.
  • We will be using Google Classroom throughout the year to prepare our students for possible distance learning. If we have to go to distance learning, the grades will count towards their average. The same grading policies will apply towards late assignments. Please know that grades given in Google Classroom are just one part of your student’s grade. You should always check Google Classroom grades to see if they have completed that work as well as Infinite Campus to find their current class average including all work assignments.
